Week 7 2015: College picks are graded; results are in! #cfb #cfbpicks

Week 7 was hyped as a big weekend in college football, and I would say it lived up to every bit of the hype and more. We saw close games between ranked teams and one of the craziest finishes we’ve seen in the history of the sports. Last week we had many close games which all fell the right way for our panel of expert predictors and prognosticators. This week many of those close games fell the opposite way, and results this week were the roughest of this season.

Winners this week included solid performances from David Pollack (5-0), Tim Tebow (4-0), Paul Finebaum (5-1), Greg McElroy (4-0), Pat Forde (18-7), and Danny Kanell (10-3). I enjoy kicking Mark May in the nuts as much as anyone, but he went 3-1 on the week so I give credit where it is due. Ryen Russillo went 7-1 on the week, including a 3-0 performance against the spread as well. However, our undisputed winner on the week was none other than Phil Steele at 12-1-1 (and 3-0-1 against the spread!). He was the only one of our experts to somehow successfully navigate the Stanford-Alabama-Michigan State-LSU-Notre Dame-Oregon terrain. When people tell me it is easy to pick straight up winners in this game, I ask them to look at a week like this. Congratulations Phil; we are sending the trophy your way for this week.

Losers this week included Chris Fallica (6-11, 3-7 ATS), Scott Van Pelt (2-3 ATS), and Brad Edwards (3-4, 1-2 ATS), but unfortunately our official loss will go to Dari Nowkah, who went 0-5 on the week and 0-3 against the spread. His five picks were bundled up together on three games total, so that’s tough to overcome when things go wrong. Sorry Dari; better luck next week.

Our special guest celebrity Steve Spurrier went 4-6 on the week. That’s a tough start to a career picking games for someone that we may be seeing on ESPN or Gameday more often in the future. Jennifer had a tough week, but still booked a winner at 7-5 including an upset special going with Michigan State over Michigan in the Big House. Lee Corso got his headgear pick wrong, continuing a pretty rough year for headgear picks. Charley the cat also lost another one, so Charley and Corso stay even this week at 2-5 on the headgear games.

Week 3 2015: College picks are graded, results are in! #cfb

Week 3 was a fantastic week of college football with some big games,big names, big upsets, and big letdowns.

There were some trendy picks this week which didn’t work out which stood out to me in particular. Everyone and their mother had Georgia Tech beating Notre Dame and covering that 2.5 point spread pretty easily. I feel like we hear this same story every year when a big name gets matched up with Georgia Tech about how hard it is to prepare for the triple option. While Georgia Tech is a really solid program, and the really do occasionally take down a bigger name with the triple option, I just can’t count how many times we have been warned about the triple option and then let down by the Yellow Jackets. Our panel of expert pickers and prognosticators were 12 to 6 in favor of Georgia Tech, which was pretty heavy for a 2.5 pt spread, so let’s all point and laugh at them.

Big winners this week included Kirk Herbstreit (10-3), Chris Fallica (12-3), Phil Steele (14-5), and Greg McElroy (5-1). However this week’s undisputed winner was none other than @GamedayJen, who dropped a 14-2 week on us with some serious knowledge. She called UCLA to beat BYU, but BYU to also cover. Her upset special was Ole Miss over Alabama. She knows her stuff so give her a follow for some serious knowledge.

Losers this week included Dari Nowkhah at 4-5, who made some bold predictions for this weekend and ended up taking it in the shorts pretty hard on Twitter. However, you won’t find a classier gentleman as he owned up to every bit of it and admits when he is wrong. Other questionable performances came from Jason Sehorn (5-4), Mack Brown (2-2), Stanford Steve Coughlin (3-7), Brad Edwards (4-3), and Trevor Matich (4-5). Normally we would give this week’s loss to Stanford Steve, but I just couldn’t resist giving this week’s official loss to Mark May, who went 2-2 on the week but looked incredibly smug when he made his picks.

Other notes include our celebrity guest picker Eric Church who went 6-5 on the week. Coach Corso went a respectable 9-4 on the week, but missed out on that headgear pick going with Alabama. Charley the Cat picked Ole Miss and takes back one week from Corso. One curious note is that the College Gameday crew of Corso, Herbie, Desmond and Eric Church all picked Kentucky to beat Florida, while the SEC Nation crew unanimously picked Florida to beat Kentucky.
