With week 1 in the books I already posted the results of the gambling picks for the week. As part of my new experiment to implement a weighted grading system on straight-up picks, I will be separating the gambling results and straight-up results in their own weekly posts. The new weighted grading system is what I will refer to as “GDC Value” for Game Day Cole Value. It is an aggregate computer rating applied to each team, where relative values are compared to apply a value to specific wins or losses.
Back to the grades, we had a lot of upsets this week. Lee Corso won his headgear pick of Georgia over Clemson, going 12-5 overall. Celebrity guest Kane Brown went 11-6 on the week. @GamedayJen went 10-7 on the week. However this week’s undisputed winner was Desmond Howard, who went 14-3 on the week with a GDC value of 8.851. I don’t know what that actually means because its the first week we’ve ever used GDC value, but he had the highest value on the week. Congratulations to Desmond Howard and all competitors.

Week 1 is officially in the books after the Monday night finale. The gambling picks are graded, and this season I will be doing separate posts for the grades on gambling picks and straight up picks. Without further adieu, here’s the gambling grades for week 1.
We had lots of big winners and lots of big losers this week, with everything in between. Bear’s Board went 3-0 on the week, with Chris Fallica tallying up a 6-1 week on ESPN Chalk. Super Dog picks went 3-2 against the number, with Herbie and Rece being the losers. Virtual Locks with Matt Barrie replacing Jesse Palmer managed an impressive 0-4 combined. I tallied up a ridiculous 43 game card for Dave Portnoy, which landed at 19-21-3 (I don’t track first half lines, so his card was actually bigger). Winners from SVP went 4-1. However, this week’s undisputed gambling champion is Dan Wetzel who went 7-0 against the number on picks last week. Congratulations to Dan and be sure to check out the Yahoo College Football Enquirer podcast for his picks.
I also included the week 1 results for all those money line sprinkles but don’t really have a champion for the week. I guess Rico Bosco wins it for a single +195 dog which hit for the biggest total profit this week. All money line picks are assumed to be a one unit play for grading purposes.
