Week 5 2016: #CFB Picks are graded; results are in!

Week five brought us another excellent week of exciting games and tough games to pick.  This college football season is really on pace to be one of the best ever, with every weekend providing multiple big matchups, and lots of crazy finishes.  Winners amongst our expert panel of predictors and prognosticators were everywhere.  Let’s get right into picks and results.

Winners this week include Lee Corso (9-4), Kirk Herbstreit (12-3), Desmond Howard (10-5), David Pollack (5-1), the entire SEC Nation crew (Tebow and Spears at 5-0, Finebaum at 6-0), Andrea Adelson (8-3), Pat Forde (20-9 Straight up, 1-2 ATS), Joey GAlloway (5-0), Booger McFarland (7-1), Ryen Russillo (3-0 Straight up, 4-0 ATS), Phil Steele (18-7 straight up, 10-12-1 ATS), and SVP (4-1 ATS).  Stanford Steve got things back on track this week at 4-2 straight up; 7-1-1 against the spread.  The Bear also booked a winner at 4-2 straight up; 6-3 ATS.  However, I am proud to say that @GamedayJen blew away the competition for the second straight week going 14-3.  In back to back weeks she has posted a 27-6 record picking the same slate of games as the pros on ESPN, and nobody else was even close over this two week span.  Congratulations Jen!  I heard last week’s muffin basket got lost in transit, so there is a congratulatory cheese platter headed your way.

Losers this week were few and far between but we still had a few.  JA Adande managed to pick all three big games wrong on Around the Horn Friday.  Charles Arbuckle went 6-7 on the Pick Center.  Tim Cowlishaw and Mike Golic both went 1-2 on the big games.  Since we have a limited selection I guess I have to credit this week’s loss to Adande in this week’s box score.

Corso went with Clemson for the headgear pick this week and got another one right, bringing him to 3-2 on the year.  He is off to a much better start than last year at least.  This week’s special guest celebrity Eric Church went 8-2 this week, bringing his lifetime record to 14-7 as a College Gameday celebrity picker.

Everyone else was somewhere in between so check out the full slate of results below to see how your favorite (or most hated) personality did this week.

2015-16 Preseason predictions reviewed #cfb

Now is the time for us all to reflect back to the 2015 preseason where we can all look at our bold predictions (and yes, MANY were bold) and laugh at ourselves for thinking that we knew anything about anything when it came to predicting the 2015 season.

For starters, pretty much nobody was even close on any predictions for the playoff and/or championship. The best anyone did was Tom Luginbill, who correctly predicted two of the four teams in the playoff (Alabama and OU). Other than that, most people didn’t even get one team right.

On Heisman predictions, nobody even had Derrick Henry on their radar, so let’s move on.

Brad Edwards knocked the ball out of the park, going 7-2 on the season totals bets. Really impressive stuff. Chris Fallica also had a winning record at 9-7 on the totals.

Things are graded pretty arbitrarily below and not included in our official record, but we can still have some fun with it. Looking back, most people below tried to get pretty cute with their preseason picks (myself included), and cute usually doesn’t end up winning. Take a look below, have some laughs, and enjoy.

2015-16 Bowl season results! #CFBPlayoff #BowlMania

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen.  With the fantastic CFB Playoff championship game in the books last night, that means the bowl season has ended.  It is now time that we look back and review how all of our competitors did playing a little bit of Bowl Mania pick’em.

We had 12 of our expert predictors and prognosticators who picked enough of the bowl games to qualify for our championship competition this year.  As with most things around here, it is all subjective and up to my judgment as to what to make of all of this mess.  Not everyone picked the Celebration Bowl between NC A&T and Alcorn State.  Some of us picked it, and it ended up being quite profitable.  Not everyone had a qualifying CFB Playoff Championship pick, because some of them picked before the playoff and had Oklahoma playing in the championship game.  And for some reason, Pat Forde refused to pick any bowl games involving 5-7 teams, but since he still picked most of them I have granted him a waiver.  Without further adieu, I present to you this year’s Gamedaycole.com official bowl championship rankings.

Cole’s Picks: 32-10
Joey Galloway: 31-11
Chris Doering: 29-13
Phil Steele: 29-12 SU, 14-9 ATS
Jennifer’s Picks: 27-14
Todd McShay: 27-15
Pat Forde: 26-12
Ryen Russillo: 25-17
Danny Kanell: 24-18
Joel Klatt: 24-17
Mark Schlabach: 23-18
Dari Nowkhah: 22-20

As you can see, Cole’s picks came out on top this year coming in at 32-10.  Not to toot my own too much, but I’m pretty good at picking bowl games.  Pay no attention to last year’s results behind the curtain where I went 20-18 in Bowl Mania.  Anyways, since I can’t very well give myself an award for picking bowl games (I guess I could since it is my site), we are proud to announce that Joey Galloway has won the 2015-16 Gamedaycole.com Bowl Season Championship at 31-11!
