Week 3 2014: Results are in; picks are graded #saturdayselections

Week 3 was advertised as a pretty boring weekend with only one ranked-vs-ranked matchup, but it actually turned out to be a pretty exciting little weekend with a lot of close games and a few nice upsets.  I’m sure you know who beat who already, so the important question is who picked Boston College to upset USC?  Well, nobody actually.  Lou Holtz is the only one who even gave them a chance, but even he stopped short of calling for the upset.

Winners this week include Lee Corso (11-3), Kirk Herbstreit (10-2), Greg McElroy (6-1), and Pat Forde (25-5).  Our champion of the week was Desmond Howard who dropped a nice 11-2 week on us.  Nobody had a really disastrous week this week, so we will give our loss this week to Chris Fowler, who only picked one game, but called for the exceedingly rare QUADRUPLE-NOT-SO-FAST upset of Maryland over WVU.  Being that bold is something to take pride in, but getting it wrong is just so glorious.

Lee Corso got the headgear pick right with an easy pick of NDSU over Incarnate Word.  This week’s special guest picker Brock Jensen had a so-so week at 6-4.  Tim Tebow had another 5-0 week, and has started this year undefeated through three weeks at 11-0.  Newcomers Booger McFarland and Jay Walker went 4-1 and 4-2 respectively.  Jennifer got back on track this week at 8-3 after a slight setback in week 2, including an upset special in WVU over Maryland.  Charley the cat picked another winner with NDSU over Incarnate Word, so she stays even with Lee Corso at 3-0 on the year for headgear picks.  The only two members of our panel of experts to pick S.Carolina over Georgia were Dr. Lou Holtz (shocking) and Greg McElroy.  The best pick of the week will go to Phil Steele, with the upset special pick of UVA over Louisville.

We have also decided to release @GamedayJen’s playoff top four each week going forward.  This week’s top four:

1.  Oregon
2.  FSU
3.  Texas A&M
4.  Baylor
